Frequently Asked Questions 1. Why should we chose Oahu/Honolulu/Waikiki for our Hawaii Wedding? Oahu is known as the gathering place. It has most features of the outer islands and more. Oahu has quiet, secluded beaches, hiking trails, wonderful vistas and rainforests, as well as lots of activities, nightlife, dining and shopping. There is lots to do, good transportation and reasonable prices. Spending some time in Waikiki, then driving one hour to the other side of the island, is like going to an outer island without the time and expense involved. 2. Why do we need a beach permit? Per the Department of Land and Natural Resources, DLNR, the purpose is: "First, to protect our natural and cultural resources; Second to provide for public resident recreational access that does not damage those resources; and Third, to allow commercial activity that does not damage the natural and cultural resources, or negatively impact the public’s recreational use." Without the necessary permit, a wedding could be cancelled and fined up to $5000. My Hawaii Wedding will obtain the permit: $55 fee with up to 10 guests. The public beach area is defined as being on sand up to the "high water mark". Permits are not required for oceanfront parks such as Magic Island or Kaka'ako Park, nor for the Queens Garden, etc. My Hawaii Wedding will assist with ceremony locations and advise if a permit is necessary. 3. Do we need a ceremony rehearsal? With a small, intimate beach wedding, there is not the need for a rehearsal. Should you desire a rehearsal, there is a $75 fee. 4. Are we able to meet with the officiate prior to the ceremony? Yes, and we are happy to meet with you, however, there is a one hour consultation fee of $75. 5. What do we wear to the ceremony? The choice is yours: formal, casual, wedding gown, tuxedo, shorts, aloha attire....whatever is your dream! 6. What do we do in case of rain? While it is possible to have showers at any time, in Hawaii they are considered blessings from above and most often are short lived. Occasionally location or time may need to be adjusted. Our rainy season is from late November to March. 7. What is the best time of day to have the ceremony? For beach weddings, we suggest before 10 am or after 4 pm for best photos. Garden ceremonies are best mid-day. 8. What about gratuities? Gratuities are not included in our packages but are much appreciated and may be added to your package or offered personally after the ceremony. 9. Is there a travel fee outside of Waikiki? The travel fee varies from $50 to $100 per staff depending on the distance from Waikiki. 10. Can we get married on holidays? Yes. Holiday surcharges apply for Christmas Eve/Day, New Years Eve/day, and Thanksgiving. 11. What if we need a marriage license on the weekend? There is staff from the Health Department available on the weekends and we will provide all the information necessary to assist for obtaining weekend/holiday licenses.
